Why Beaufort Memorial:
Employees in Their Own Words

You Shine Through Award Winner Being CelebratedHospitals are only as good as the people who staff them. At Beaufort Memorial, we take that responsibility seriously. Every member of our team brings a can-do attitude to our collaborative approach to care. From physicians, nurses and medical assistants to laboratory technicians, clerical staff, nutrition aides and housekeeping services, everyone makes a difference.

Because every team member contributes to providing excellent patient care, we strive to provide a supportive workplace with opportunities for advancement, flexible schedules and generous benefits. And although many of our employees are South Carolina natives, many others have moved from afar to enjoy the Lowcountry lifestyle, but that’s not the only reason.

If you want to know what else makes Beaufort Memorial such a special place to work, our employees are happy to tell you what life is like behind their identification badges. Here’s why some of our team members chose Beaufort Memorial — and why they’re still here.

Missy Blair’s Story

Missy Blair, a respiratory therapist, was nervous about moving here from Tennessee, but she’s glad she did. Even working through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic at Beaufort Memorial felt less stressful than it might have, thanks to the numerous recreational activities she enjoys in her spare time. Another bonus, Missy says, is that Beaufort Memorial is one of the friendliest places she has ever worked.

“At the very fast-paced places, a lot of the patients are treated more like numbers,” Missy says. “But here, you get to know the patients, and you get to know their families.”

Joy Solomon’s Story

Playing a key role in launching and running the PATH Program, Education Department Director Joy Solomon loves helping Beaufort Memorial employees step into their dream jobs and meet their goals.

“If I could identify the thing I love the most about my job, it’s teaching,” Joy says. “I love helping others grow professionally. I love watching a lightbulb go on, helping others understand things and inspiring a desire for excellence.”

Lisa Terwilliger’s Story

Lisa Terwilliger, RN, has been at Beaufort Memorial since the 1980s — a true testament to how much she loves her job. With the help of the hospital’s scholarship fund, she was able to transition from clerical work to nursing to serving as assistant department director. Lisa even stayed behind to work at Beaufort Memorial when her husband transferred overseas during his military career.

“I couldn’t leave,” Lisa says. “In this unit, we’re like one big family. Everybody takes care of each other.”

Monique Salois Blais’ Story

Monique Salois Blais, RN, found her perfect fit on Beaufort Memorial's medical surgical floor. Ask her what she loves and she'll mention the great work environment and how amazing it feels to be living in paradise.

“In our break room at the hospital, we have a lovely view with a window that looks out onto the Beaufort River. I try to sit in there on my breaks and watch the sailboats, and every morning when we have our meetings, we all look out there to see the sunrise over the river,” Monique says.
