Pulmonology Services at Beaufort Memorial

From tests that gauge how well your lungs work to a versatile procedure that can diagnose and treat many lung conditions, our team has lung care covered. Our pulmonology services include:

  • Bronchoscopy: Pulmonary medicine specialists often use bronchoscopy to diagnose lung disease. During this procedure, a physician will use a special scope called a bronchoscope to see your airways and lungs. The physician can use the scope to look for abnormal growths or blockages and take samples. In some cases, physicians use bronchoscopy for treatment, such as opening a blocked airway.
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation: You may need pulmonary rehabilitation if you have a chronic condition that makes breathing difficult. In pulmonary rehabilitation, you’ll work with outpatient therapists to improve your ability to exercise. You’ll also learn how to breathe more effectively and adapt to life with lung disease.
  • Pulmonary testing: Also known as pulmonary function testing, pulmonary testing can measure whether your lungs are working as expected. Tests measure airflow entering your lungs, the amount of air your lungs can hold, and other important lung health indicators.
  • Smoking cessation: If you smoke, quitting is one of the best things you can do to reduce your risk for a variety of lung diseases. Our team can connect you with resources to help you quit and offer tips for finding a strategy that works for you.
