How Your Gifts Help

Thanks to gifts of all sizes from our special friends, the BMH Foundation has been able to support important programs and services and purchase valuable equipment at Beaufort Memorial. It is because of community support that the hospital is able to better serve the community – a beautiful cycle. Learn about Ways to Give.

Total grants made to the hospital surpass $24 million dollars since it became active in 1990. The impact of your gifts is tremendous. Examples of how gifts have helped our patients are shown below.

ECHO team with new cardiac ultrasoundA Huge Thanks from the Imaging Department

Over the years, support from the BMH Foundation has enabled our Imaging Department to use some of the best technology and equipment available to deliver superior care. Now, thanks to your gifts the department has another upgrade: a new Vivid S70 echo unit.

“Our new cardiac ultrasound machine is not only easier on our bodies, but the images are also the best quality for our patients,” says echocardiographer Shawnna Abell. The Vivid S70 makes it possible to scan a wide range of patients, even those with body types or conditions that can make scanning difficult.

Donna Buck and infusion team with blanket warmerThe Gift that Keeps on Giving

Donna Buck, a patient at our infusion center, noticed that during treatment patients often complained of being cold. Wanting to help, she approached Joyce Hartshorn, the center’s clinical nurse manager: Would it be possible for her to fund a blanket warmer for her fellow patients at the center?

Joyce put Donna in touch with the BMH Foundation staff, and the foundation applied the patient’s gift to make the purchase.

“As soon as the blanket warmer arrived at the infusion center, the RNs had it full of blankets, towels and pillow cases for our patients,” says Joyce.

“This is a gift that keeps on giving,” Donna adds. We are so thankful for our wonderful patients and staff and the concern they show for others.

ER team with new mattresses New Mattresses for the ER

Thanks to you and the BMH Foundation for making it possible for us to replace worn and damaged mattresses in the Emergency Department. With your help, we were able to purchase 10 Stryker ComfortGel mattresses. The ComfortGel Support Surface is the newest technology available in stretcher mattresses and is designed to redistribute pressure in the vulnerable sacral region to help prevent pressure injuries.

Over the years, the BMH Foundation support has made it possible for the ER to deliver superior care with some of the best technology and equipment available.

Thanks to your generous donations, BMH Foundation purchased two new golf carts to provide patients and visitors a better degree of comfort and convenience!

Paula Davis breast cancer survivor Improving Lumpectomy Patients’ Comfort & Outcomes

BMH Foundation purchased the Savi SCOUT, a technology that makes the day of breast cancer surgery easier for our patients and more efficient for healthcare providers. The system provides a wire-free way for surgeons to accurately pinpoint the tumor and plan the incision for better results.

“The Savi SCOUT is a great technological advancement in breast cancer surgery,” Dr. Stephen Sisco said. “It allows us to have better control of where we make the surgical incision for the best cosmetic outcome.”

Benefits:

  • No need for an additional procedure on the day of surgery
  • Better likelihood of complete cancer removal
  • Increased potential for better cosmetic results

“I got a good prognosis and am now ready to get back to my life,” said Paula Davis, a cancer survivor. Read Paula's story.
