Pharmacy Services

Our licensed clinical pharmacists are an important part of the patient care team at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Our pharmacists and technicians are available around the clock, working closely with doctors and other caregivers to meet your specific health care needs.

Medication Safety

If you take any medications regularly, you should put them in a bag and bring them with you to the hospital. Your nurse and pharmacist need to know which medicines you are taking. As soon as your nurse makes a note of all your medicines, ask a family member or friend to take them back home.

The hospital pharmacy will provide all of your medicine during your stay to ensure that what you receive is correct, timed appropriately and won’t conflict with any other medication.

Before receiving a medication, a treatment, or any other service, be sure the armband with your name and information can be checked.

Be sure to let us know about:

  • Prescription medications you have been taking prior to being in the hospital
  • Over-the-counter medication that you are using, or commonly use
  • “Natural” remedies, supplements, herbal products or alternative medications you are using
  • Use of recreational drugs, if any
  • As much information as you may have or can remember about allergies or reactions to medications you may have had in the past

Questions you should ask before receiving medications:

  • What is the name of this medication? Is this the brand name or the generic name?
  • What is it for?
  • How much should I get, and how often?
  • What possible side effects are there?

If a medication is unfamiliar or new to you, also ask:

  • Will this be replacing anything I was taking before I came in?
  • What possible side effects are there?

Any questions you may have about your medication and other treatments are always welcome.
